After three days played at the ATP Finals, there is still no player mathematically qualified for the semifinals. The best positioned so far is the local Jannik Sinner, who with his balance of 2 wins and 0 losses, after beating Alex de Miñaur and Taylor Fritz, is very close to secure his pass to the next round.
Sinner has cemented his spot as the year's number one, earning 400 points (200 for each win in the group), and his next match will be on Thursday against Daniil Medvedev, who has also earned 200 points after beating De Miñaur. In the other group, Alexander Zverev and Casper Ruud have scored 300 points each. Carlos Alcaraz and Andrey Rublev, for the moment, have not scored points.
Alcaraz is the most affected in terms of ranking. With his defeat, he moves away from his goal of overtaking Alexander Zverev in the rankings, and also loses ground to Jannik Sinner, who in January will defend the 2,000 points he earned as champion, in addition to the 1,000 points he already subtracted by being a finalist in Turin.
On the other hand, Novak Djokovic is another of the big losers, as he decided not to participate and lose the 1,300 champion points. This has allowed Casper Ruud to snatch the sixth position in the ranking. For undefeated qualifiers from the round robin phase, the maximum points that can be scored are 600. In addition, a win in the semifinals awards 400 points, while a victory in the final awards 500 points. Points are only awarded when a match is won.
